The jar is amber glass and is accepted in kerbside glass collection throughout New Zealand. Rinse before recycling.
The lid is plastic with a wadded liner inside it. Lift out the liner, then place both in the general waste bin. Neither is small enough to be sorted at a recycling facility.

How to use it.
Take about a fingertip's worth. Rub through hands evenly.
Work through damp or dry hair, back to front.
Comb into shape for a sharper part, or rake through with fingers for a looser finish.
Start small, build up.
Apply to dry hair for full hold - comb from roots to ends to shape, then leave it to set and hold through the day. Damp hair dilutes the hold, which can work in your favour for a looser, wet-look finish.
